Urgent!--Contact State Legislators Now to Ensure Ballot Drop Boxes Stay Legal!
The legislation passed last spring that authorized use of vote-by-mail drop boxes has expired. The boxes proved very popular where they were used, especially in Champaign County. Without swift state reauthorization of drop box use, election authorities will not be able to use them in 2021, threatening the prospect of safe and fair elections in February and April when the pandemic will likely be far from over and mail-in voting will likely still be in high demand. The General Assembly will meet for a lame duck session from January 8-13. If legislation reauthorizing drop boxes is not passed by the 13th, then the boxes will not be legal. Contact your state legislators NOW to demand legislation to extend the authorized use of drop boxes!
