Our November general membership meeting will feature Max Libman. Max is a senior at Academy High School in Champaign and serves as a speaker for the St. Louis Holocaust Museum, where he presents to organizations and schools. His focus is on preserving stories through intergenerational connection. Max will share his family's personal Holocaust testimonial and a documentary that he created on his great-grandmother's story of survival.
In light of last week's vandalism of gravestones in St. Mary's Cemetery with antisemitic and racist slogans and symbols, our agenda has been expanded.
In addition to Max's presentation, we will be hearing from:
Karen Simms, Program Director of the Trauma and Resilience Initiative in Champaign-Urbana. Karen will discuss how to process the trauma many in our community may be feeling in light of current events in Israel and Gaza as well as the recent hate crimes in our own community.
A staffer from Representative Nikki Budzinski's office regarding how she is addressing antisemitism and hate on the federal level.
We hope to see you at this important meeting to learn and have a conversation as we navigate a painful and challenging time!
As always, Bend the Arc is committed to fighting for a United States free from white supremacy, antisemitism, and racism, where every person can thrive.
